Welcome!
I am a Metadata Specialist at Clemson University Libraries, where I work with cataloging, metadata, digital collections, and special projects involving rare books, historical materials, and cultural heritage collections. My work focuses on improving discovery, accessibility, and metadata quality through the application of cataloging standards, authority control, and evolving metadata practices.
I hold a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from Valdosta State University and am currently pursuing a Master of Arts in History at Clemson University. My thesis research examines the South Carolina textile industry from 1877 to 1921, exploring the transition from tenant farming to mill work and its impact on children, families, and communities in the Upstate region.
My professional and academic interests intersect through a shared commitment to preserving, describing, and improving access to historical and cultural resources. I am particularly interested in metadata quality, cataloging, digital collections, special collections, and the thoughtful integration of emerging technologies into library workflows.
A significant area of my current research and professional activity focuses on artificial intelligence in technical services. I am exploring practical and responsible applications of AI to support metadata creation, metadata quality control, cataloging workflows, and resource discovery. Through presentations, publications, and ongoing research, I am investigating how AI can enhance efficiency and consistency while maintaining the accuracy, context, and professional standards essential to library metadata.
In addition to my work at Clemson, I am an active researcher, author, and presenter. My recent scholarship includes work on AI-assisted metadata quality control, digital collections, and innovations in technical services.
Before entering the library profession, I spent nine years directing youth services programs in Florida, where I led grant-writing initiatives, developed community programs, supervised multidisciplinary teams, and built partnerships among schools, juvenile justice agencies, counselors, and community organizations. This experience strengthened my commitment to public service, education, and creating meaningful access to information and opportunities.
Through my professional work, research, and scholarship, I am dedicated to preserving history, improving access to information, and supporting the discovery of knowledge for future generations.
